This article provides some best practices on migrating content from other whiteboard software (like Miro, Mural) to Collaboard.
If you're switching to Collaboard from another online whiteboard tool, you can easily migrate some of your existing content using a variety of supported methods. This guide walks you through all available options to move your sticky notes, tables, and visuals into Collaboard quickly and efficiently.
1. Migrate Sticky Notes via CSV Export & Copy-Paste
Most whiteboard tools allow you to export sticky notes as a CSV file. You can import this data into Collaboard using the following method:
Step-by-step:
-
Export from your current tool:
Export your sticky notes as a CSV file. -
Open the CSV in Excel or Google Sheets:
Ensure that the sticky notes' content is clearly visible in one column. -
Copy the cells with the sticky note text.
-
Paste directly into Collaboard:
Open a board in Collaboard and paste the content usingCtrl+V
(Windows) orCmd+V
(Mac).
Collaboard will automatically create sticky notes for each line or cell.
2. Copy & Paste Tables
Migrating tables is simple and seamless in Collaboard.
Step-by-step:
-
Copy tables from Excel, Google Sheets, or your old whiteboard (if supported).
-
Paste into Collaboard.
-
Collaboard detects the structure and creates a visual table directly on the board.
Note: You can further format the table and edit values directly in Collaboard.
3. Use the Sticky Note Detector
When working with exported images or screenshots of whiteboards, Collaboard provides a powerful tool to reconstruct your sticky notes automatically.
How it works:
-
Upload an image of your old whiteboard (PNG, JPG, etc.).
-
Activate the Sticky Note Detector in the image context menu.
Collaboard scans the image and recreates sticky notes with:
-
Original content
-
Color
-
Position
This is ideal for migrating physical whiteboards or whiteboard screenshots from tools that don’t support export.
4. Add Static Content via Image or PDF Upload
You can bring your old whiteboards into Collaboard in a static format by exporting them as images or PDFs.
Step-by-step:
-
Export your whiteboard as an image (PNG, JPG) or PDF from your current tool.
-
Upload the file into Collaboard via drag & drop or the upload function.
-
The content will be placed on your board as a static visual.
-
Add sticky notes, text, or shapes on top of the static content to annotate or extend it.
This option is perfect if you want to preserve layout or content but don't need to edit the elements.
